In 1975, the editors of a community yoga newsletter decided to launch a national magazine known as Yoga Journal.

In the inaugural issue, the editorial letter explained that the publication was designed to “provide a forum for communication” among yoga teachers and students. “Our intention is to bring you material that combines the essence of classical yoga, with the latest understandings of modern science.”

Almost 50 years later, yoga continues to evolve, and so does Yoga Journal. Our editors uphold the original intention by sharing inspiration and instruction on the practice and philosophy of yoga and help readers understand how these ancient teachings can help you navigate contemporary life.

Yoga Journal keeps you informed of relevant conversations and concepts. As we seek answers to your questions, we continue to ask new ones of ourselves and others to ensure that the teachings of yoga remain relevant, inclusive, and accessible to all.

We’re able to do so through the insights and experiences of the many contributors and editors who have studied, practiced, and trained in various lineages of yoga. These teachers include hundreds of talented teachers and students, including Judith Hanson Lasater, Sri Dharma Mittra, Jason Crandell, Rina Deshpande, Dr. Gail Parker, Tias Little, and so many more.
